Intermission

“You think me snobbish?” Gabriel interrupted, his fork and knife poised to cut his venison medallions in gravy.

Pulled out of her recitation of the story, Lily had to remember what she had just said. “Well, not now, of course,” she replied with a shake of her head. “But back then, well...” She paused a moment, giving Sarah a glance in the hopes her sister-in-law would help her out of the awkward situation. Sarah’s attention was on her plate, however, so Lily was forced to continue. “Yes, I thought you were a snob.”

Gabriel gave a shrug. “Oh. All right, just as long as you no longer feel that way,” he replied, returning his attention to his venison.

Lily released the breath she was holding and gave a nod. She considered where she was in the story and continued.
